Alberto Rizzuti is a full professor of history of musical civilization at the University of Turin, whose doctoral school he directed (2018-21). In 2012 he founded the online journal «The Spaces of Music» and has been its director since then. Since 2014 he has been Associate General Editor of the “Works of / Opere di Gioachino Rossini” (Kassel, 2008-). In 2017 he founded the Centro Studi sul Teatro Musicale (University of Turin), which he has directed since then. His works include: the critical edition of Giovanna d’Arco (“Works of Giuseppe Verdi”, Chicago - Milan, 1983- 'Opere', vol. 7, 2008); the monographs Fra Kantor e Canticum. Bach e il Magnificat (2011), Sotto la volta celeste. Beethoven e l’immaginario pastorale (2014), Musica sull’acqua. Fiumi sonori, fontane magiche e mari in tempesta da Händel a Stravinskij (2017) and Ascoltar leggendo. Un viaggio d’istruzione musicale sulle note di ‘Imagine’ (2022); the articles Torino 6 unica. Abstract

Impari Atena presents the verbal text of a musical theater performance on the myth of Apollo and Marsyas, which will be staged in Turin as part of the 2022 edition of Festa Europea della Musica. This reworking imagines that Euterpe, in protest against Apollo’s arbitrariness, calls for Athena’s intervention so that the musical competition can take place and the contestants have equal opportunities. But even the goddess of justice cannot judge equally, and so she remains silent. It will be Music who wins the challenge, and finds a way to reconcile the art of the god with that of the Sylen beyond all expectations.
