This small but significant volume is compact in size yet rich in meaningful content, reviewing a wide range of experiences in music education. The author, who has a PhD in Educational Sciences and teaches Music Pedagogy at conservatories, draws on a variety of experiences, from her personal educational background to accounts of her work as a Special Needs Pedagogy fieldworker. She also provides analyses and discussions of the main pedagogical profiles and functions, which are treated more generally and with less context. Addressing individuals interested in the issues and perspectives of pedagogical inclusion in music education, the book’s discourse is supported by rigorous documentation and argumentation, as well as an original metaphorical apparatus involving paintings from various periods and styles. This framework is grounded in a cross-disciplinary artistic sensibility, and is supported and motivated by direct pedagogical and critical activism at various levels.
