Francesco Finocchiaro, an oboist and PhD graduate at Bologna University (2006), researches the relationship between music composition, theory and aesthetics in 20^th-century music. He edited the Italian edition of Arnold Schönberg’s treatise The Musical Idea (Astrolabio-Ubaldini, 2011), and published several essays on the Vienna School in international periodicals. One of his privileged research topics is film music, in particular the relationship between cinema and the musical avant-garde movements during the ‘silent’ era. He has recently published a study on Modernismo musicale e cinema tedesco nel Primo Novecento (LIM, 2016), and with Maurizio Giani edited the collective volume Musica e metafora: storia, analisi, ermeneutica (Accademia University Press, 2016). He has lectured in Italy, at the universities of Bologna, Milan, Florence, and at the “G. Frescobaldi” Conservatory in Ferrara, as well as abroad at Vienna University. Since 2013 he has directed a research project on film music at the Musicology Department of Vienna University.

Abstract

The volume in review collects the proceedings of the conference on the relationship between music pedagogy and diversity, held at the Wissenschaftliche Sozietät Musikpädagogik on May 6 and 7 2011 at Kassel University. Contributions by: Jürgen Vogt, Thomas Ott, Markus Brenk, Alexandra Kertz-Welzel, Hans Jünger, Jürgen Oberschmidt, Maria Luise Schulten and Alexander Cvetko.
