Fabrizio Della Seta is Full Professor at the Department of Musicology and Heritage of Pavia University (Cremona campus), and is in charge of the musicology curriculum for the PhD course in Scienze del Testo Letterario e Musicale [Disciplines of the Literary and Musical Text]. In the field of historiography he has published Italia e Francia nell’Ottocento (1993) and Beethoven: Sinfonia Eroica. Una guida (2004), as well as several essays. He has published editions of works by Verdi, Rossini and Bellini, and is co-director of the critical edition of Vincenzo Bellini’s works (Milan, Ricordi).

Abstract

Musica e Storia is a project for a textbook, conceived and supervised by Paolo Fabbri. The second volume consists of six chapters and addresses the period between 1640, which marks the rise of public opera theatre, and 1830, when the Romantic sensibility had become established. The third volume spans the period from 1830 to today, and includes two parts, dedicated to the years before and after the watershed date of 1920. The first volume has already been examined by Dinko Fabris in this periodical (III, 2013, pp. 139-142).
