Reflecting on continual reforms on the formation and role of music teachers in Italy (five in twenty years with a forthcoming sixth reform announced by the Conti government) this essay offers an analysis of the legislation. It also offers reflections on the validity of the model used to prepare teachers devised by the University in collaboration with pre-college schools since the creation of SSIS, the need to have such a collaboration specifically for the formation of music teachers in order to avoid present problems resulting from the lack of dialogue among the disciplines.
