Abstract

This paper introduces a computer application aimed at teaching music drama. The application is based on Drammar, a formal model for drama theory developed at CIRMA in Turin University. On the basis of this model, a tool has been developed to annotate and visualize dramatic and musical structures, and to study their mutual relationships. The paper introduces the ontology and the tools for annotation and visualization of dramatic and musical structures, and tests the conformity between the fundamental principles of drama modeled in the computer program and those adopted in the theory and analysis of musical dramaturgy. It also examines peculiarities in the representation of the drama structures addressed and the basic features of Drammar as applied to the teaching of musical theater.
