This essay takes as a case study the present situation concerning music education in Italy and Alto Adige with particular attention to the Free University of Bolzano/Bozen in order to address the present and future challenges to offer a sustainable quality music education that can be both personalized and rigorous. To do so the essay focuses on a research project led by the University of Bolzano.
