Paolo Gozza has taught Philosophy and Aesthetics of Music at the Scuola di Lettere of Bologna University. His research interests concern the relationship between music and science in the Modern age (Number to Sound. The Musical Way to the Scientific Revolution, Springer, 2000), the cultural origins of musical aesthetics (Estetica e Musica. Le origini di un incontro, CLUEB, 2004, with Antonio Serravezza), and the reception of classical musical myths in Renaissance and Baroque culture (Imago Vocis. Storia di Eco, Mimesis, 2004). He edited the miscellaneous volume L’immagine Musicale (Mimesis, 2014), and published the essay Pietro Verri teorico delle arti (Edizioni di Storia e Letteratura, 2017).

Abstract

This review discusses the historiographical model that underlies the book’s proposal of a historical take on the pedagogical-musical discourse, bringing the Renaissance educational repertoire of two-voice singing closer to today’s music pedagogy.
